Conservation
Conservation efforts on Ascension were initiated in 2001 when the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) funded a half million pound Seabird Restoration Project which was managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).
On 26 September 2001 the Ascension Island Government and United Kingdom Government signed up to an Environment Charter for Ascension.
The Conservation team conserves Ascension's natural heritage by implementing the Ascension Island Government's commitments to the Environment Charter.
The Conservation Team has since established its identity on Ascension and has made steady progress in seabird colony and plant restoration. A number of projects that were funded by dedicated overseas organisations with input from the Ascension Island Government have been completed with some such as the RSPB seabird restoration project that are still ongoing. Details of the projects can be found on the 'Current Projects' page.
This site aims to give you an overview of the projects, the wildlife and nature of Ascension Island.
